  • Eric Heitman, DVM

    Owner / Veterinarian
    Dr. Heitman has been the owner of Ottawa Animal Hospital since 1989. He graduated from Michigan State University School of Veterinary Medicine. He is married to wife Michelle and they have two beautiful daughters: Kristen and Kylie. His German Wirehaired Pointer, Nelly, is his canine companion, in addition to two horses, one goat, and a few chickens.

  • Diane Bergstrom, DVM

    Veterinarian
    Dr. Diane Bergstrom began working at Ottawa Animal Hospital in 1984 as a receptionist and kennel help before applying to Veterinary School. She graduated from Michigan State University's Veterinary School in 1989 and worked outside of Detroit and in Louisville, Kentucky before returning to Ottawa Animal Hospital in 1993. She has worked for OAH since then, occasionally taking time off while her family grew. When she’s not at OAH, she can usually be found with her wonderful family - husband, 3 daughters, and a variety of animals - enjoying the outdoors.

  • Wendi Soper, DVM

    Veterinarian
    Dr. Soper was born and raised in Wyoming, MI. She performed undergraduate studies in Animal Services, as well as her veterinary training at MSU and graduated in 2002. Immediately after graduation she moved to New Jersey to perform additional training at Garden State Veterinary Specialists. After completing an internship program, she moved back to MI and started working at OAH. She recently has completed training in Acupuncture Therapy and is also on her way to completing Tui-Na Massage Therapy for pets. She shares her home with her dog and three cats.

  • Wendy Swift, DVM

    Veterinarian
    Dr. Swift graduated in 1996 from Michigan State University with a degree in Animal Behavior and Neurobiology and again in May of 2000 with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. She started working at Ottawa Animal Hospital shortly after graduation. She enjoys internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, exotic animal medicine with an emphasis on small mammals, animal behavior including aggression, multi-animal family interaction, noise phobias, and inappropriate behaviors (inappropriate elimination issues, barking, digging, etc), purebred cat/dog predispositions, and sporting dog medicine/kinesiology.

    From July 2003 to July 2011, Dr. Swift worked for the Humane Society of West Michigan giving homeless animals a voice focusing on shelter medicine, veterinary forensics, animal welfare advocacy programs, and shelter management. With a true passion for the pets and people at Ottawa Animal Hospital, she returned to continue practicing veterinary medicine in Holland. Dr. Swift is a Reiki Master Healer and can offer pets a balance between traditional and holistic medicine. Holistic options include nutritional consultation and dietary supplementation, massage therapy, crystal healing, aromatherapy, and Reiki healing treatments. Dr. Swift is also a Canine Good Citizen Evaluator who loves incorporating positive pet and family interactions to strengthen the human animal bond. She loves to spend time with her husband, son, and furry family members including guinea pigs and labrador retrievers.

  • Susan Turner, VMD

    Veterinarian
    Dr. Susan Turner joined us in the fall of 2015 and has been practicing in the West Michigan area for the past 6 years.  She grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania and did her undergraduate education at the University of Notre Dame, where she met her husband, Dave.  She graduated veterinary school in 2009 from the University of Pennsylvania.  Dr. Turner and her husband are avid Notre Dame fans and can be found cheering on the Irish most fall Saturdays.  They currently have 3 rambunctious cats - Cider, Drake, and Prim.  Her professional interests include internal medicine, feline medicine, and dentistry.  She looks forward to meeting you and your pets!

  • Albert Allen

    Practice Manager
    Albert Allen worked as a retail manager for many years before following his wife’s career change and making the switch to the animal care field. Al and Keren have a variety of animals in their household including Pip who is an eleven year-old Miniature Pincher, Pandora, a six year-old Pit Bull, Penelope, the six year-old Siamese cat, three rats named Petunia, Pepper, and Paisley, and a thirty-gallon aquarium full of assorted tropical fish. Al worked at the Animal Emergency Hospital in Grand Rapids for 5 years before joining the Ottawa Animal Hospital team as the practice manager in November of 2016.

    Veterinary Technician Supervisor
    Robin was born & raised in Holland. She is a graduate of GVSU with a degree in Bio-medical Sciences. She is married and shares her home with two dogs, two cats and one horse (well the horse isn't really in the home!)

  • John Bauman

    Veterinary Technician
    John joined our team as a kennel assistant in 2001 and has progressed to be a veterinary technician. He shares his home with his cat, Wallace, and his mini dachshund Izzo. Being from Chicago he is a huge fan of the Bears, Bulls and yes Michigan fans - the Ohio State Buckeyes! In his free time he enjoys any type of sports and has recently been running in 5 & 10k races.

    Emily has been a LVT here at Ottawa Animal Hospital for 11 years! She absolutely loves her job (and we all love her singing!). When she is not at work she spends time with her husband, Josh of 11 years, and her 2 children Kendall and Camden. She also has 3 dogs Dega, Knox and Monte. Her daughter Kendall has 3 rats and they also have 7 egg laying chickens. In her spare time she enjoys reading, shopping and taking walks with the family.

    Bridgette graduated from Baker College in 2006 and is a Licensed Veterinary Technician. She worked at an AAHA practice in Wyoming, MI. until she chose to pursue a career closer to home. Bridgette was born and raised in Holland. She is married to a great guy and has two boys, a cat named Marley, and a dog named Ziggy at home. Bridgette enjoys being outside doing yard work and spending time in the sun at Silver Lake.

    Sara has worked at Ottawa Animal Hospital since August of 2012. She started as a kennel tech while going to Baker College in Muskegon, working toward becoming a Licensed Veterinary Technician. She graduated from Baker in 2015. She is married to a fun-loving guy and together they have a handsome baby boy. In her free time she loves to be in the beauty of the outdoors hunting, fishing or just enjoying the sunshine!

    Licensed Veterinary Technician
    Julie is a Licensed Veterinary Technician who graduated from Michigan State University. She worked in Kentwood for 30 years before becoming a part of Ottawa Animal Hospital in May 2014. She lives in Hudsonville with her two daughters and two cats but grew up in the Holland/Zeeland area. She is enjoying being back in her familiar territory!

    Veterinary Assistant
    Amanda was born and raised in Boston, MA where she worked for a small animal veterinary clinic and left home at 19 to join the United States Marine Corps. After she completed her active service, she moved to Michigan with her husband and son. As a nature enthusiast she began attending Grand Valley State University for Environmental Chemistry, but soon realized that her true passion was for animals. She then left Grand Valley to begin working at Ottawa Animal Hospital and is currently in school to become a veterinary technician. She hopes to continue her education and become a veterinarian in the future.

    Belinda lives in Holland with her family. She has three adult children and one grandson (she loves being a grandparent!). She also has one dog, Maggie the pug and three cats, Sampson, Chumley and Pimento who are all very special to her! She is a graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University. In her spare time she loves doing genealogy, reading fiction, and spending time with her family.     Jami has been in the veterinary field since 2000. She has worked as a vet assistant and in client service. She joined Ottawa Animal Hospital in October of 2013. She lives in the Zeeland area and loves it! In her spare time she loves spending time with family, friends and many animals- 2 horses, 1 mini horse, 1 dog, 1 cat and fish. Her hobbies include hunting, fishing, riding her horses, and relaxing in the outdoors.
